AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions for the Spartan Marching Band take place during the late spring and early summer of each academic year. These auditions are held live and take place at the MSU College of Music and on the SMB Turf Field; there is a virtual option for students who cannot attend in person. Please visit the steps listed below for further information regarding your section of interest.

Register for an audition
All interested individuals should first register for an audition using the link below. This will add you to our information mailing list which will provide audition updates, reminders, and allow you to stay connected with the SMB!

Find your section
The SMB is made up of 5 different audition groups:
the Hornline, Drumline, Color Guard, Big Ten Flag Corps, and Twirlers.
Each group has different audition requirements for admission to the ensemble. Please find the requirements for your group by clicking the "sections" button.

Audition
Auditions for take place in May and June before the upcoming fall season. Each section will audition on MSU’s campus either at the College of Music, Demonstration Hall, or Munn Turf Field. Times for audition days will vary but plan to for the process to take most of the day. For all sections, there will be a morning block, followed by a lunch break, and then an afternoon block. All auditionees will have access to feedback about their audition to help the individual learn and grow as a musician and performer.
