The 300-member Spartan Marching Band is one of the most recognized student organizations in the MSU community. As a member of the SMB, you will experience the thrill of performance, develop skills of discipline, dedication, and time management, all while creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. The experience of being in one of the country’s premier collegiate marching ensembles is not an opportunity to be missed. Answer the call!
Performance
In the SMB, our commitment to performance goes beyond giving our all on game day. It begins with our mental and physical preparation in the off-season, continues through the long days of hard work during preseason camp, and is further perfected each day of rehearsal throughout the entire fall season.
Accountability
In the SMB, accountability means showing up for each other and holding ourselves to the highest standard. It means being aware of what we are doing well, and being honest with ourselves about where we can do better. Above all else, our attention to accountability strengthens our commitment to each other and our craft.
Community
In the SMB, community means putting the needs of each other above all else. It means creating a place where every member knows they have unconditional support, and a space where we build each other up, and never put anyone down. In this pursuit, the SMB brings out the best in all it’s members and is often best described as a family.
