Prepare to rock and roll, this rivalry weekend is going to be one for the books! The SMB has been gearing up for an electrifying halftime show for the game against University of Michigan, featuring iconic hits from Queen, Journey, and AC/DC. As if classic rock, a custom sound system, mosh pits, electric guitars, and a drum set weren’t exciting enough, the band will also debut our long awaited new uniforms.
For the past three weeks, the SMB has been rehearsing with diligence and precision to deliver a thrilling tribute to rock and roll. As we showcase timeless hits from these legendary bands, expect to be on your feet singing along to classic hits including AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and Journey’s “Any Way You Want It”, just to name a few.
The SMB's killer musical lineup isn’t the only thing capturing the essence of a rock n’ roll concert in our halftime show. Thanks to Yamaha and our talented staff, the SMB is set up with a sound system that will fill the stadium with adequate volume that blends the sound of the electronics with the band, creating a sound similar to a rock concert. While there will be slight live volume adjustments during the halftime performance, it’s primarily up to performers to handle their own dynamics. Graduate assistants Corey Doran and Ben Mapes have been working on custom wiring the drumset, electronic sounds, and guitars to efficiently connect to the field, which is no small feat. Typically, most concerts have multiple hours to set up equipment and run sound checks, but Spartan Stadium will transform into a rock n’ roll concert in just a minute and thirty seconds.

With an epic halftime show on the horizon and building anticipation over the rivalry game, it’s the perfect occasion to debut our new threads. Our new look is not just an aesthetic upgrade but an embodiment of the band’s evolution and the marking of a new chapter in SMB history. The last time the Spartan Marching Band received new uniforms was in 2013 when the band traveled to Pasadena, California for the Rose Bowl. Needless to say, we are eager to show off our fresh uniforms this Saturday.
Prepare for this weekend’s rivalry game, gear up for an unforgettable halftime show, and get ready for the debut of the SMB’s new uniforms. We are amped to share musical excellence and innovation with Spartan Stadium this Saturday, and look forward to delivering a halftime show that will truly rock.
